Many adults have some misalignment of their front teeth which is apparent when smiling. In many cases, this can be wholly or partially corrected using cosmetic tooth alignment procedures available at our practice. More serious cases may require full orthodontic treatment, for which referral to an orthodontist may be required.

At Towngate Dental Practice, we offer two types of cosmetic tooth alignment: fixed braces (Cfast) and removable clear aligners (SmileTRU). Both these systems use digital technology to simulate the alignment process, allowing you to see a predicted image of your straightened teeth. They can produce a marked improvement for many patients within around 6 months!

Cfast system

The Cfast system involves fixing a tooth-coloured brace across the teeth to be aligned, using a series of “self-ligating” brackets attached to the teeth. The position of the brace within the brackets is adjusted by your dentist every 4-6 weeks as tooth movement progresses. The brace is worn permanently for the duration of the treatment.

Cfast is designed to place only gentle force on the teeth, giving the dentist more control of the tooth movement and making it more comfortable for the patient. The system also produces results relatively quickly, with the average time being 6 months and most cases completed within 9 months.

SmileTRU system

The SmileTRU system uses a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners which are virtually invisible when worn. These are shaped to fit snugly over your teeth, applying gentle force to gradually move the misaligned teeth. Each one is worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next one. The aligners should be worn for 22 hours per day, but are removable for eating and drinking.
